TAMMY SMITH
Tammy Smith is a rising artist noted for her distinctive creations inspired by animals. Tammy's singular style is both evocative and whimsical. A resident of Marblehead, MA, Tammy has worked as a dog sitter, and described the process of painting a dog and sitting for one as similar. “There's an ongoing dialogue,” she joked, in an interview with Wicked Local Marblehead.
Tammy uses bold strokes, splashes of vivid color, and as a print maker employs such materials as India ink, acrylics, and phosphorescent ink.
Her work is currently showing at Keyes Art, Sag Harbor, NY; and has also been exhibited at The Marblehead Art Association, Marblehead, MA.
Tammy Smith creates her compositions with big and bold brushstrokes, splashes of vivid color, and materials such as India ink, acrylics, and phosphorescent ink. Her work is expressive and mischievous. This work is more personal than the quixotic images of cats and dogs for which she is typically known. It comes from a series of informal portraits that Smith made of her close friend, Julie Keyes, before Keyes found sobriety. The humor is that ofslapstick, situational comedy, and visual excess. It is a record of a time when Keyes would do things like fall asleep in the kitchen under the pots and pans. Cartoonish and funny, it is also a heartbreaking and revelatory depiction of how a loved one deals with their friend’s addiction.
Tammy is currently represented by Keyes Art and presented at The Church, Sag Harbor, summer, 2024.
