Artist Statement written by musician Pete Francis:
There is a life force that emerges from Quigley's canvases. The greatest gift a painter can give to his painting is an independent life of its own. Very few painters can accomplish this. When we stare into one of Quigley's portraits or abstractions, the images welcome us to ponder, to be still, to join the narrative. We return to our favorite museums to be recharged by the work we love. Whether it's Miro, Picasso, Pollock, Welliver, Sargent, Guston, Goya, Bacon, DeKooning, or Hopper - all of these painters give us a renewed sense of life with their paintings. Their work is energy realized in a visual form. Quigley's paintings, drawings, and sculptures also radiate in a completely unique way. His boxers, presidents, poets, rock stars, army generals, dogs, basketball wizards, strangers, nephews -- all of his subjects, all of his abstractions, reflect his love for what makes life wonderful. It has been one of the great joys of my life to collaborate with Quig both with Dispatch and my solo work - his album covers are original and timeless. There is soul in Quigley's work. For me, that is the role of an artist: to bring life and wonder into this world. Quigley accomplishes this feat in all of his work. He is a masterful painter.
